Expression of Metallothionein in Oral dysplasia and Oral Squamous cell carcinoma: An Immunohistochemical Study
نویسنده
چکیده
Oral leukoplakia (OL) is the most common potentially malignant lesions of the oral cavity and Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) accounts more than 95% of all malignant neoplasms in the oral cavity. Therefore, the aim of this study to report the immunoexpression of metallothionein in dysplastic lesions to correlate with histological grade and OSCC. Samples of 5 normal oral mucosa, 15 dysplastic cases was graded as: mild dysplasia, moderate dysplasia and severe dysplasia and 15 cases of OSCC. Immunohistochemistry for the metallothionein was performed and the Pearson Chi-Square test was used in statistical analysis. The metallothionein stain in all cases exhibits a mosaic pattern and predominantly in cytoplasm and nucleus simultaneously. The total stain was significantly higher in OSCC when compared with normal and dysplastic lesions. Metallothionein expression may play an important role in the conversion of potentially malignant oral lesion to oral carcinoma since its earlier stages.

Angiogenesis and Tumor-Associated Macrophages in Different Grades of Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma, Verrucous Carcinoma and Epithelial Dysplasia via Immunohistochemical Assessment of Expression of CD34 and CD68 Markers
Background:Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) is the most common malignancy of the oral cavity, which is highly invasive. Verrucous carcinoma (VC) is the low-grade form of SCC. Epithelial dysplasia (ED) also has a malignant potential. This immunohistochemical (IHC) study aimed to assess angiogenesis and the presence of tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) in SCC, VC and ED to determi...

Background & Aims: Leukoplakia is the most common premalignant or potentially malignant lesion of the oral mucosa and its potentiality for malignant transformation is unpredictable. The aim of the present study was to evaluate p53 expression in normal oral epithelium, leukoplakia and oral squamous cell carcinoma. Methods: The standard Biotin streptavaidin peroxidase immunohistochemical staining...

Background and purpose: Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is the sixth most common cancer in the world. Podoplanin is a mucin-like integral membrane glycoprotein that is expressed in the lymphatic endothelial cells but not in the blood vascular endothelial cells. The aim of the present study was to investigate the immunohistochemical expression of podoplanin and evaluating lymphangiogenesis i...

The present study was conducted to assess fascin expression in OSCC using an immunohistochemical technique. Materials and methods: In the present re...
متن کاملComparative Evaluation of Immunohistochemical Expression of Endothelin A Receptor between Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma and Normal Oral Mucosa
Background: Recent research has provided evidences indicating the importance of endothelin axis in carcinogenesis. According to our knowledge, there are little information about endothelin A receptor (ETA) expression in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC). So, the aim of the present study was to evaluate the immunohistochemical expression of ETA in OSCC and normal oral mucosa (...
